Reetoxa – Soliloquy

Melbourne band Reetoxa’s new album “Soliloquy” took over my room for almost an hour and a half today. I had the album playing through my speakers while doing random things around the house, and every time a new track came on, it pulled me back in again. 26 songs is a wild move for any band, especially for a project built after 30 years of songwriting, but Jason McKee and his band somehow keep the whole thing moving without running out of ideas.

What is surprising is how different each song of the album sounded. The rhythms switch up, the guitar work changes shape from song to song and even the production choices keep shifting around in a way that stops the album from dragging. The drums hit hard when they need to, the basslines are clean and sharp and some vocal melodies stayed stuck in my head long after the album ended.

You can hear how much effort and time went into this project. After Jason met producer Simon Moro, it seems like everything finally clicked into place for this release. There’s ambition all over this record, but it never turns messy or exhausting.

I honestly loved the quality of this album. Reetoxa sounds professional, confident and completely committed to what they’re making. I’m really excited to see where this band goes over the next few years.
