SCHMID’s HUHN – Hindemith Abstractions

I just discovered SCHMID’s HUHN and I loved every second of their new album “Hindemith Abstractions”. It was one of those albums that kept me interested all the way through and by the time the last track ended, I already wanted to play it again.

I don’t cover jazz very often. It isn’t because I don’t enjoy the genre. It’s simply rare for me to find a release that grabs my attention this much and this album absolutely did. With these great 10 tracks, the band blends composed ideas with open improvisation in a way that never loses direction. Even when the music takes unexpected turns everything stays connected which is hard to achieve, and that’s what sets them apart from other bands.

I really loved the chemistry between the four musicians. They listen to each other, leave room when needed, then come together at exactly the right moments. That balance gives the album its unique and strong character. The changing tones and melodies also kept things fresh, so every piece had something different to offer without losing the main sound of the record.

The album takes inspiration from Paul Hindemith and that makes it even more interesting, but it’s okay, you don’t need to know anything about Paul work to enjoy it. The music speaks for itself and invites you into its world without asking for anything in return.

I honestly loved this release from the first second to the last one. I like how every track had something worth hearing and I enjoyed the whole experience more than I expected. So, whether you’re already into jazz music or just curious to hear something different. I think this album deserves your time. I’ll definitely be coming back to it.
