Sarah Brunner just hit my radar and I’m excited to write about her self-titled EP. I went into these five songs without knowing much about her, and by the end, I was already thinking I needed to hear more.
The EP moves through connection, loss, love, and change, but Sarah never makes these ideas sound distant. “Something Else” looks at how easy it is to be surrounded by screens and still miss connection. “Miss Kentucky” touches on marriage equality and the right to love, while “Piano Keys” takes a quieter look at losing someone and the things that can remind us of them. “Eyes of You” explores memory and confusion from a personal point of view and “Safe Bet” closes things with the difficult choice to leave a relationship that no longer feels right.
What I loved most was Sarah’s voice. It has character, and her delivery has a strength that stayed with me after the songs ended. I also enjoyed her melodies. They give each track its own shape without making the songwriting complicated. The instrumentation is full and gives her vocals so much room, and the production work is another part I liked. It’s polished and has great energy.
Sarah Brunner is a talented artist with strong songwriting, good production and a sound I connected with. I loved spending time with this EP, and I’m glad she landed on my radar. I’ll be keeping an eye on what she does next.
