I’m not going to lie, I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a French song as much as I enjoyed “Anna” by Roan Grevel. I usually don’t understand French lyrics, but that honestly didn’t matter here. The music says more than enough on its own and that’s what pulled me in from the start.
The energy throughout the track kept me interested the whole time. Even if you don’t speak the language, the guitars seem to tell the story while the drums and melodies leave something behind that sticks in your head after the song ends. The vocal hook caught me quickly and I found myself waiting for it every time it came back. Then the guitar solo arrived and completely delivered. It’s easily one of my favorite moments on the track. The drum work also deserves credit because it keeps everything moving.
The song tells the story of a woman who has been worn down by life and betrayal but still has a small part of her that wants to keep going. I also liked the production choices. They sound smart and creative, especially the soft ending, which closes the song in a memorable way. The overall sound is strong and both the production and the vocal energy impressed me.
The fact that this is Roan Grevel’s debut makes it even more exciting. I really like how everything already sounds confident and well put together. It makes me wonder where his music will be a few years from now. That’s one of the best parts about discovering indie artists early and I’ll definitely be following his journey from here.
