The Scarlet Goodbye – Losing (the only game in town)

I’m wondering where The Scarlet Goodbye has been hiding from me. Their style is so close to the music I play every day and I’m honestly happy I discovered them today. “Losing (the only game in town)” gave me that surprise of finding a band that sounds familiar to my ears, even though this was my first listen.

The song moves with a great rhythm and the guitars, keys, bass, drums and violin give it so much to hear and enjoy. There are little details in the instrumentation that kept catching my attention. The writing is good too with lyrics about someone dealing with a losing situation and knowing there may not be another option waiting around the corner.

Daniel Murphy and Jeff Arundel share the vocal work well and the delivery has so much confidence. I really really liked the presence and charisma of the members. You can hear years of experience in the way they play together and I think that is a big reason this worked for me on the first listen.

The Scarlet Goodbye is a band that treats music with real care. They have their own way of mixing rootsy songwriting with a wider musical touch and it creates an atmosphere I really enjoyed. I’ll definitely be keeping their music on repeat over the next few months. Finding this band today was a great discovery and I’m already looking forward to hearing more.
