I really loved THROES NYC’s sound on this short EP “The Wires Out”. It’s a two-track release that grabbed my attention immediately. There is something easy to connect with in the way this band mixes alt-pop, trip-hop and electronic sounds without making the songs feel overloaded. Trust me, this balance is hard to achieve, but this band nailed it perfectly.
“Always, Baby” opens the EP with a smooth electronic sound and the textures caught me right away. Courtney Leo’s vocals are the kind that get into your head and stay there. There is a lot of emotion and honesty behind her delivery. I really liked how the instrumental side gives her enough room to carry the song.
“Something Chemical” is my favorite of the two. I personally loved the lyrics here so much and the song has a little more energy, especially when the chorus comes in. The melodies are catchy enough and some of the lyrics kept pulling me back for another listen. It has an emotional side, but there is also enough movement in the instrumental work to keep it going. The production ideas work really well on both tracks.
THROES NYC has made a short EP, but there is enough here to make me want to hear more. I’m happy I had the chance to write about their music today, and I’ll definitely be listening to them again. Sometimes two songs are enough to leave you curious about what comes next and that is exactly where this EP left me.
