Pocket Lint has become one of my favorite artists over the last few months. I’ve enjoyed reviewing some of his releases, so seeing him back with a new album was something I was looking forward to. “Wunderkammer” opens in a way that pulls you into his own musical world and it doesn’t take long before you want to keep going to see where the next track leads.
Across its 11 tracks, the album offers a little bit of everything. It never depends only on the vocals to carry the music. There are moments where the synths and guitars take over, giving each piece its own place while still keeping the album connected. That variety is one of the reasons I keep coming back to Pocket Lint’s music.
His voice has always been one of my favorite parts of his work. I remember hearing him for the first time and being hooked almost immediately and that hasn’t changed. His performance is confident and it fits the songs perfectly. I also enjoyed the melodies, the lyrics, and the care that clearly went into putting this album together.
The idea behind Wunderkammer, with each song acting like its own object inside a cabinet of curiosities, gives the record an interesting thread without getting in the way of simply enjoying the music. It is thoughtful but easy to connect with.
“This album is built around the idea of a Wunderkammer, or Cabinet or Curios. It is really a journey into my mind by examining different facets of it and the first song and last serve as the beginning and end of the reflection” Says Pocket Lint.
This is an album I’ll happily play again during quiet nights. Pocket Lint continues to impress me and I honestly think this is another well-crafted release that deserves time and attention.
