It’s almost midnight and I’m still listening to this album, so I decided I had to share about Matt Smith and his new record “…this is not ok…” with you. There’s something about this one that kept me listening until the last second. The album brings together classic rock, blues, and a little folk rock across 9 tracks. It’s an easy record to have playing while you’re relaxing at home or out for a drive, but there’s enough going on in the songwriting to keep your attention. The rhythms fit the songs well, and the whole album has that kind of easygoing vibe that makes you want to let it play.
I really loved the opening track “World Is a Wheel”. That was the song that had me going back and replaying the album again. I really liked the songwriting and the melodies here, and it gave me a good idea of what was coming next. Matt Smith has one of the best voices I’ve heard this year in the indie scene, and I honestly mean that. He has so many skills, but his writing and singing are what stayed with me most.
I love what Matt is doing with his music, and I’d love to hear where he takes his career next. This album was a great late-night listen and I’m happy I gave it my time.
