This is an amazing release from Florida songwriter and producer Lisa Jo. She is back with a new album “Whispers” and it’s an amazing experience from start to finish.
“Whisper Voices of Rebellion” is a simple opener on paper but the way the lines land makes it stick. It’s not busy, nothing layered too heavy, just space and a voice carrying a lot of weight. Some parts of her delivery made me pause and go back.
I’ve written about Lisa Jo before and I keep coming back to the same thought: she doesn’t sound like she’s chasing anything. She just writes and puts it out. Knowing everything she’s been through sits in the background, but the music doesn’t lean on it for sympathy. It holds up without that.
“Whispers of Regret” was the one I stayed on the longest. The guitar does a lot of the work. I caught myself focusing on the instrumentation more than anything else at first. The vocals are strong and confident and her melodies are beautifully captivating.
By the middle of this album. I stopped checking track names and just let it run. The choruses are easy to remember. They’re the kind that stick after a couple of listens. The mix did a great job here. The instruments stay in their place which helps the vocals carry things without fighting for space or attention.
She’s been releasing a lot lately. And honestly, not all artists can keep that pace without losing something. But here. it still sounds focused. That’s probably why I keep checking back when I see her name pop up.
After listening to this album. I didn’t feel like picking a favorite track. It’s more like sitting through a full thought, start to finish. I’ll probably go back to a couple of songs but the full listen is what really stayed with me.
