Subhi – In My Way

We can’t get enough of this incredible pop piece, “In My Way,” by the beautiful artist Subhi. The minute we heard her voice, we got hooked on it and we fall in love with it. Her voice is a piece of heaven, it’s angelic, charming, and pure and her vocal performance is so catchy. This beautiful masterpiece left us stuck on repeat for a long time and we were very excited to review it and share it with our followers. The song comes with a gorgeous music video, directed by Lyle Lindale and produced by Ashish Rangnekar. The lyrics of this song are so original and beautifully written, the pre-chorus and the chorus are our favorite parts. Such a great experience!

In 2018 she toured with Red Baraat as part of their Festival of Colors Mid-West tour and opened for the band at Dakota Jazz Club (Minneapolis), CSPS Hall (Iowa) and Martyrs (Chicago).

Originally from New Delhi, Subhi was always surrounded by music whether by the Punjabi folk music sung during family celebrations or the Indian classical music her grandmother enjoyed listening to. At the age of eight Subhi started receiving formal training in Hindustani classical music. As a child she enjoyed listening to her grandfather recite Urdu poetry and would write down the poems that touched her heart. She started writing her own songs in middle school. During her years in middle and high school, Subhi was a part of the English music choir and also played Indian percussion instruments, namely tabla and dholak for the Indian Music Choir.

Subhi immigrated to New York City in high school and after graduating college interned with famed Oscar-nominated film director Mira Nair for the Broadway musical Monsoon Wedding. Shewas also an entertainment reporter for South Asian outlets, all while working full-time at a prominent Wall Street banking institution. Even after winning a coveted employee award, Subhi’s strong feeling of emptiness gave her a sign to fully pursue what she wanted to her entire life: write and sing her own songs. She quit her job and packed her bags to try her luck in the Hindi-cinema capital, Mumbai, a city completely unknown to her. She believed with her heart that passions are supposed to be pursued full-time and her conviction and hard work paid off. While in Mumbai, Subhi sang and composed music for National Award winning director Nila Madhab Panda on his feature film and also worked on projects with leading Indian digital platforms including The Viral Fever and Y-Films — the digital platform for illustrious production house Yash Raj Films. Mumbai further honed her skills as an engaging performing artist. Subhi shuttled between Chicago and Mumbai and in that travel and cultural diversity she created lyrics and music that were both personal and universal.
