C.J. Coyne just landed on my radar with a new single called “Smoke Drifting”. This is his second release and gave me a very good reason to pay attention. I really enjoyed his sound on this one, especially the rhythm and the hook. Those two work together in a way that kept me listening and made me curious to hear more from him.
The track has a dark atmosphere with synths and an instrumental arrangement that suits the song without getting crowded. Coyne has a rich voice and his confident delivery gives the lyrics meaning. The writing is honest here. The song looks back at memories and decisions that can stay with us long after they’ve passed, and that idea fits the mood of the music. It gives the track something to say without making the message feel heavy handed. The production and mixing are professional and made with so much care. Everything sits comfortably in the mix, from the synth work to the rhythm that carries the song along. I like how Coyne balances melody with that dark edge. It gives him a style I want to hear more of.
I’m happy this track crossed my path. I enjoyed the melodies, the lyrics and the overall sound, and I can see myself coming back to this single. If this is an early look at what C.J. Coyne is working towards, I think there’s a great future ahead of him. I’ll be keeping an eye on his next releases.
