I discovered this amazing artist Arbor Rose back in July, when her single “One Moment In Time” caught my attention. I liked her voice and the way she approached that song, so when her new release “More Than Shame” arrived, I wanted to write about her again. I’m a little late getting here, but I’m glad I made the time, because I enjoyed this one even more.
She writes about the lasting damage caused by abuse, the grief of losing her mother, and the choice to stop letting painful experiences define her. It’s a very very very difficult subject, but the song doesn’t leave the listener stuck there. There’s a sense of taking back control and that gives the track its power.
I also love how much is happening in the instrumental. The details are there without crowding her voice and the production and mixing are excellent. Everything works together and the groove keeps the song moving. Arbor Rose has one of the purest and most charming voices I’ve ever heard and it’s the core of this song. She has a strong voice, but it’s the way she delivers each part that carries the message. You can hear the conviction behind the lyrics.
Arbor Rose has both the writing and the voice to make a song like this connect. I’m happy I found her back in July, and this single has made me even more interested in what she does next. She’s definitely an artist I’ll be listening to again, and I’ve got a feeling you’ll want to do the same.
