I’m so excited about The Lazz’s new single “The Crown”. If death metal and hard metalcore are your thing, this one should be right up your street. Even if heavy music usually isn’t your choice, I’m sure there’s enough here to pull you in.
The energy of this track is high and serious. The melodies are strong and memorable which gives the song something to hang on to while the guitars and drums push it forward. I really liked both. The guitar work has bite and the drums give the track a firm drive.
The vocals are strong and easy to listen to. The rough and forceful male delivery sits well beside the melodic female singing and that contrast gives the song its unique character. The two approaches bring different shades to the track, so it stays engaging instead of becoming one long wall of aggression. The production is impressive and the writing holds everything together. The heavy parts and melodies work well with each other.
There’s an idea behind the song beyond the riffs. The track looks at what can happen after personal growth, when someone starts treating their own insight as proof that they’re better than everyone else. It’s a good subject for a metal track. It gives the title more to chew on. This is a seriously enjoyable listen. The Lazz have made a heavy song with hooks, passion and so much drive, and I’d happily play it again when I need energy.
