Alex Orbison opens his solo journey with “Fairweathered Friend” and I honestly loved the melodies and the songwriting right away. The song looks at friendship with honesty and that simple idea gave it something I could connect with almost immediately.
His voice has a rich tone and the way he delivers every line kept me listening until the end. I enjoyed the instrumentation because it stays full without becoming crowded. There are many small details to notice but the melodies are easy to follow which made the whole song enjoyable from start to end.
This is just his debut single but the quality is already impressive. I like how everything sounds carefully put together and it already feels like the work of someone who knows exactly where he wants to go with his music. I also liked the harmonies in the chorus and I believe they come from his wife. They blend nicely with his voice and add another layer to the overall sound.
I’m also excited that another single is arriving this Friday, this time as a duet with his wife, and after hearing this release, I’m looking forward to it. Alex has found a sound that suits him and his personality comes across through his vocal presence as much as the songwriting. If this first release is any sign of what’s ahead, I think his debut album is going to be one worth spending time with and I’ll definitely be listening.
