“Cry,” is an emotional piece by professional singer and songwriter Sam Himself. We are not sure if we could find the right words to describe the charm of this masterpiece. The minute we heard it we couldn’t get it out of our heads, we were totally stuck on repeat and we still! Sam has one of the most charming voices you could ever hear! This song shows off his talent and all of the melodic tones of his unique voice. His lyrics and melodies mesh together perfectly, and the chorus is incredibly catchy. The story behind this song is solid and very very touching! Let’s let Sam talk about it himself:
WHAT THE ARTIST SAYS ABOUT THIS SONG:
“I was driving across Switzerland before dawn to shoot the final takes of the video for ‘Like a Friend’; I’d been up for a long time, the tour had just been canceled and, according to the news, I wouldn’t be able to fly back to New York anytime soon. Then my phone rang and at the end of that call, the relationship I was in had ended, too. In a matter of hours, my life as I’d known it was over. For all the dread and confusion of that moment, I also felt ridiculous for licking my own wounds while the world around me looked like it was ending. That’s the dissonant state I tried to capture with ‘Cry’: it’s a farewell letter to my old life in New York and a relationship ended by the pandemic, but also a caustic reminder to myself not to wallow in self- pity amid a global catastrophe.”
ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Switzerland’s very own Sam Himself – New Yorker by choice, ‘Fondue Western’ baritone by trade – releases “Cry”, the first single off his upcoming debut LP. Written in self-quarantine, “Cry” marks the artist’s first long-distance collaboration with his longtime producer and ‘Second Beatle’ Daniel Schlett (Amen Dunes, The War On Drugs; DIIV).
At the outbreak of the pandemic, Sam found himself stranded on tour between his native Switzerland and his chosen home in Brooklyn, NY. His shows suddenly canceled and his return to the United States uncertain, Sam spent the lockdown holed up at an Airbnb in his hometown of Basel, Switzerland. There, he started writing new material with what little equipment he’d brought with him on the tour that never was. The resulting batch of songs forms the framework of Sam’s debut album, due out in 2021.
According to Sam, “‘Cry’ is a farewell letter to my former lives and loves in New York, all ended by the pandemic, and a reminder not to pity myself amid a global catastrophe.”
The LP’s first single follows on the heels of Sam Himself’s acclaimed EP Slow Drugs, which earned him the Swiss National Broadcasting Service’s prestigious Best Talent Award. The five-track EP features Josh Werner (bass – Iggy Pop; Lee “Scratch” Perry; CocoRosie) and Parker Kindred (drums – Jeff Buckley; Elliott Smith, ANOHNI) under the direction of mixer and producer Daniel Schlett.
