Good evening. As promised yesterday, here’s another Exzenya review, this time for “Forgiven For The Last Time”. I loved this tone and this may be one of the best titles I’ve heard from her.
Built around piano and voice, the track keeps things simple, giving the words room to land. Exzenya sings about realising that forgiving someone else is no longer the answer. After staying too long, believing the wrong person and watching that choice affect her family, she comes to a harder realisation, she has to forgive herself. It is an honest subject, carrying a heavy weight without making things so complicated.
The piano work is lovely, creating a warm and captivating atmosphere. Exzenya’s voice is raw and direct, and that is a big part of why this works so well. She doesn’t need to dress up the performance. Her warm melodies and honest writing do enough, while the arrangement lets every word have its place. There is no need for a bigger arrangement here, the piano and her voice carry the song.
I loved spending time with this one. It is simple, but there is real depth in it and the mood stays with you after the song ends. Exzenya has shown she can move between very different moods without losing what makes her sound her unique. I wasn’t wrong when I said she would keep surprising us with her music. This is a great listen, and one I’ll want to hear again.
