One of my favorite indie artists, DownTown Mystic, is back with a new single titled “Maybe Love’s A Crime”. He’s given me another song that is hard to leave alone. It has been on constant repeat this morning and I have loved every minute of it. This is one of the best tracks I’ve heard from him so far.
DownTown Mystic has a way of bringing an old-school rock sound into the present without making it seem like a copy of records from another time. There is a rhythm running through this song, and the energy keeps it moving. The groove has that rolling quality that makes you want to turn the volume up, while the arrangement gives the track room to do its thing.
I enjoyed the writing. The lyrics caught my attention, and his voice suits the song. His delivery has so much character, but he never pushes it too hard. Everything sits comfortably in the mix. The production is professional, the mixing is clear, and the recording has the kind of good vibe that makes another listen an easy decision.
I’ve followed DownTown Mystic for a while, so hearing him come back with a song this enjoyable is a real pleasure. If you’re discovering his music for the first time, he’s an artist worth keeping an eye on. As for me, I’ll be happy to keep this song in rotation and would love to hear more from him next year.
