Jonivan Jones – Ozark Moon

Jonivan Jones just landed on my radar a couple of weeks ago and his two track EP “Ozark Moon” has been on constant repeat ever since. It’s one of the best indie releases I’ve heard in 2026 and these songs have made me want to hear more from him.

The title track “Ozark Moon” sets the tone with its good strings and melodies and Jones‘ deep voice. His delivery has a pull, while the writing gives the song so much to explore. The arrangement never gets in the way of the story, a traveler looks back on years spent on the road and the comfort of finding a place that offers some peace. That idea gives the track weight without spelling everything out.

“Desert Surf Blues” keeps a similar atmosphere, but it paid more attention to the instrumental work here. The playing has so much room to move and I enjoyed Jones‘ delivery too. Its story follows two people facing reconciliation after a difficult time. Both tracks have melodies that stayed with me, good writing and good rhythms. Jones has a gift for songwriting and I like the care put into the music.

The production and mixing are excellent across the EP. The sound is carefully put together, and the quality is impressive without losing the character of the songs. I discovered Jonivan Jones just a couple of weeks ago, but this release has made me a fan. I’ll be looking forward to hearing what he puts out next year.
