Rusty Reid – Oh, What a World

I still remember listening to Kacey Musgraves’ beautiful song “Oh, What a World” back in 2019 and replaying it a few times because I liked it so much. So seeing Rusty Reid back with a new cover of this song was a lovely surprise, and I have to say, I enjoyed his version just as much.

Originally released by Kacey Musgraves, the song has a special way of celebrating the world around us and reminding us to appreciate the little wonders of life. Rusty keeps much of what I loved about the original, including its melodies and lyrics, but gives it his own touch along the way. Rather than changing too much, he takes the song in a slightly more grounded direction, with the guitars getting room to open up as the track goes. His delivery is gentle and smooth, and I really love his soft vocal tone here. He handles the lyrics with care, letting the words speak without pushing too hard. The guitars also deserve a mention, adding a lovely touch while staying close to the spirit of the original.

Taken from his album “Lone Stardust (Masterworks of Texas Songwriters)”, this cover also makes a fitting final song on the record. There is a lot of care behind the performance and that’s something I appreciate about Rusty’s music. I love his voice and delivery as always and I’m always happy to support independent artists who put this much passion into what they do. Another lovely release from Rusty and one I’ll gladly listen to again.
