C’batch is back with another single and he’s ending the year on a high note. He’s worked so hard this year, and I’ve loved covering his music along the way. With every release, he seems to get better, so I’m already excited to hear what he has planned for next year.
“If There Was Ever a Fool (One of a Cast of Many) 1” is a guitar-led song with a full arrangement. C’batch makes music with real passion, something I’ve mentioned in previous reviews, and the care he puts into each release is clear. The production here is polished without taking away from the character of the song.
The lyrics are strong and original, looking at a relationship that has ended through a dark and ironic lens, with a little humour mixed in. It’s an unusual subject to build a song around, but it gives the track something to say beyond the music. The vocal melodies are strong and memorable and the orchestral layers give the arrangement its dramatic edge. I also love the guitar work. There are great moments in the playing and it gives the song most of its character.
The quality of C’batch’s work has impressed me for a while, and I’m happy to hear him pushing each new release further. I really love his music and this is another one I’m happy I got to cover. He’s had a busy year and he’s made it a good one for listeners like me, and I’m ready for more.
