I discovered Martin Yates last November and nearly a year later, I’m still looking forward to hearing what he does next. So when I saw his new single “Through It All” I knew it might end up on repeat all day. That’s exactly what happened. Some artists make you wait, but the next song can make that wait worthwhile. Martin has done that for me again.
There’s lively energy here with classic soul running through a modern pop sound. The song deals with the lonely side of a relationship, when you keep giving love without getting the same back. Martin brings that hurt without losing the upbeat drive, giving the subject and music an interesting contrast.
His voice is a big part of why I remember his songs. He has a smooth and catchy delivery and a strong presence that stays with you after the track ends. I enjoyed the songwriting and the energy behind it. The instrumental is carefully put together and the sound design gives each part its place. The production is creative and professional with clear mixing and mastering.
The chorus is memorable and the melodies are easy to catch yourself humming later. This new single is a good listen for sure, and it reminds me why I’ve been keeping an eye on Martin since I first found his music.
