Harry Kappen’s new single “Good Samaritans” reminds me why I keep listening to his music and reviewing most of his recent releases. Alongside his unique voice, I love his raw energy, strong presence, great songwriting and how much is going on in the music. He is an artist with great direction!
There’s a classic rock touch here that takes me back to the music I grew up listening to. That’s a big part of the charm here. Kappen carries that classic sound into a song with something to say. The song is about people who step in to help when someone needs them, without asking for praise or attention. It’s a message worth hearing in a world where getting noticed can seem more important than doing something decent (which is sad).
The track has so much drive and Kappen’s raw and real sounding singing gives it the right edge. I’m sure you’ll enjoy his amazing and confident performance. The arrangement keeps my ears busy, but the guitars near the end were my favourite part. They give the song a strong finish and left me wanting to hear that section again. Danna Gomez’s voice in the chorus was a great choice.
Kappen makes music with passion and I appreciate that a lot each time I listen. This single has made me enjoy his work even more. I like songs that bring together a message, a classic-rock spirit and playing that sounds like it matters to the person making it. This one gives me all three and I’m happy I spent time with it.
