Martin Lloyd Howard – Highland Mist

Let’s start our day with the new release from Martin Lloyd Howard, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy it as much as I do. He’s become one of my favorite names when it comes to instrumental and acoustic folk music, and he is one of those artists I trust enough to press play without thinking twice.

“Highland Mist” is another reason why. Martin’s guitar playing has something special about it for me. There are moments when I can simply sit back and let the music take me away for a few minutes of peace and relaxation. It even has a healing side which is not something I say about every instrumental artist.

The idea behind the track is easy to understand once you hear it. I can almost picture myself somewhere between the mountains, with mist around me, a little cold in the air, and nothing to do except enjoy the moment. Martin uses DADGAD tuning on an acoustic guitar here, giving the piece that Celtic character without making it complicated.

That ability to make someone travel through music says a lot about his talent and the years he has spent playing. I also like that the guitar does all the talking here. There is no need to add anything extra. I love Martin’s style and what he continues to create. I’m proud to see how far his music has come, and I’ll happily keep listening to whatever he brings next.
