I discovered this amazing project i give my friends flowers just last week and “DOGSTAR 1” was the perfect introduction for me to Jacob Klein and his collaborators. Happy I got the chance to write about his music because there is something different about the way this project comes together. It’s not an album that sounds like something I’ve already heard a hundred times. It’s unique and made with so much care.
Jacob has a style that grabbed my attention. The music moves through different ideas without losing its identity, and there are creative touches showing up along the way that kept me interested. I really liked the production work. The sound design is polished, but you can still hear the passion behind it.
The album has great variety which made listening from start to end easy for me. I liked the sound so much that I don’t want to pick one favorite title here. There were too many good moments spread across the album, and choosing just one would probably miss the point. There is also a story underneath the record, with change, loss and a search for home. I think that adds another reason to listen to the whole thing rather than jumping between tracks.
I loved spending time with this release. It’s the kind of record you should sit with in one go. I’m new to Jacob’s music, but I’m excited about where he takes this sound next.
