DAPS – Down wit dat (cold killa)

I just found this amazing artist called DAPS, and I honestly can’t get enough of his music. His new single “Down wit dat (cold killa)” gave me a clear idea of why I’m already paying attention. This is rap with a direct edge and he knows how to ride the beat without getting lost in it.

His flow is strong, his delivery is confident and his voice has the kind of presence that makes the bars easy to remember. The lyrics hit hard too. He talks about growing up around 60th Street and Cobbs Creek in Philadelphia. There’s a real story behind the track, but he keeps it focused. The instrumental is well crafted and gives the song a hard push while leaving room for his verses.

The producer is professional and did an amazing job here. The beat, production and mixing come together cleanly and the mastering keeps everything smooth. You can tell DAPS and Zack knew what they wanted from the track.

DAPS sounds comfortable doing this and I like that. There’s a great confidence in his performance that made me want to hear more. I really think he deserves a lot more attention. Finding an artist like this is one of the best parts of running an indie music blog. I’ll definitely keep an eye on what he does next.
