Mixing hip-hop and pop has never been my favorite combination, but IamSnap may have changed that for me with “Last Round”. I honestly did not expect to enjoy the whole song this much and the chorus kept getting better each time I played it.
IamSnap brings a strong voice and a confident performance here. There is personality in the way he delivers the verses and the lyrics are real. The song deals with anxiety, self-doubt and the struggle of fighting through those darker thoughts, but it does not stay stuck there. There is a sense of pushing back and refusing to give in which gives the track some weight.
Lydia Caesar adds exactly what this song needs. Her pop voice brings a different side to the track and her hook is seriously catchy. I can see that chorus staying in my head after the song is over. The instrumental is well crafted and supports everything without getting in the way. The production sounds polished and professional. There is a heavy sound here that hits a little harder with each listen.
This is one of those songs that changed my mind about a style I normally would not choose first. IamSnap has something interesting going on and I am excited to see where his music takes him over the coming months.
