Good evening, everyone! John Lennon’s classic masterpiece “Woman” is one of those songs I connect to a memory. Years ago, it was the only song I used to sing to my wife. So hearing it brought back memories and warmth. When I heard Dan Szyller had recorded a cover, I was ready to hear his version.
This talented French artist brings a different vocal tone to the song and that gives this version its unique character. I enjoyed the emotion in his delivery and the way he means every word he sings. Dan has one of the best voices I have heard and hearing him take on a song like this was not easy for me. Covers are some of the hardest songs to record because they can either work in your favor or make you wish you had left the original alone.
Thankfully, this one works. For me, Dan’s version is on the same level as the original and that is not something I say lightly. He respects the song while making it sound like his own performance. I am sure John would say the same if he were with us today.
This was the best way to end my night and now I am playing it for my wife. I can picture the impression on her face when she hears it. Some songs carry memories with them, and this one just added another. Thank you Dan. You did something special with a song that already meant a lot to me.
