Until They Burn Me is one of the best indie bands I’ve heard in the last few months and their new single “Addict” really got me. There’s a rough edge to the song that works right away, with guitars pushing things forward, drums keeping the track moving and vocals that have so much character. The energy is the big reason I kept going back to it.
The song takes on addiction and that strange relationship people can have with it, loving it one minute and hating it the next. The subject is serious, but the band doesn’t turn the song into something heavy to sit through. They wrap it in a throwback rock sound that brings back some of that late-80s and 90s spirit. I’m not usually drawn to every song in this style, but this one has enough drive to pull you in anyway.
I also really liked the production. I like how everything sits together well, and the guitars, drums, and vocals have room to do their part perfectly. You can hear the passion and care behind the record and that matters to me.
For a band I’ve only just discovered, Until They Burn Me already has me interested in what comes next. There’s something honest and personal in the way they created this song. I’ll be following their journey because this one left me with the kind of excitement I want from an indie release: a good song, a real spark, and a reason to press play again.
