BLØSMM is one of the best female artists I’ve heard in months and “Poser” is a strong way to introduce her. As a debut single, it comes in with the confidence of a band that already knows where it wants to go. The track is built around hard rock guitars, big drums and a bass part that gives everything a solid base. I liked the energy right away, but the vocal melodies were what kept pulling me back. She has a strong voice and she uses it without making every moment sound oversized. There is a good balance between the heavier sections and the melodic side of the song which gives it some movement.
The song also has something to say. It deals with hitting a low point, dealing with other people’s expectations and trying to hold on to your own sense of purpose. The idea of being called a poser or a dreamer while still choosing to keep going comes through clearly, without the message taking over the music.
I also have to give credit to the production. The mix sounds clear, the guitars have weight and every part gets enough room to work and that says something. It’s a well-crafted track with the energy a hard rock anthem needs. BLØSMM has only just started and that makes this debut even more interesting to me. If this one is the starting point, I’m sure what comes next will be more surprising. I’m excited to hear where she takes it.
