Malkotron is my artist of the month and I’ve loved spending time with his new album, “No Paradise”. There’s a little bit of everything here and once I hit play, I somehow end up listening again before I even realize it. It’s almost 11PM as I write this and the album is still playing in the background.
Malkotron has a clear passion for what he does and you can hear the years of experience in the way he puts these tracks together. The mix of sounds keeps the album moving without making it hard to sit with. I also liked the different vocal approaches across the record. There is thought behind the production and the sound design has many small details that are easy to notice when you spend more time with it.
The album also deals with depression, coping, isolation and trying to keep going, but it doesn’t turn those ideas into something overly complicated. That direct approach works for me, especially alongside the varied musical sounds. This is exactly why I like writing about independent music and why CTTV is here. Artists who put this much care into their work deserve to be heard and I’m always happy to support that.
Malkotron has made one of those albums I can keep playing without getting tired of it. Whatever he releases next, I’m pretty sure I’ll love it. And I already want to hear more.
