I just discovered the Canadian band LeBarons earlier this month and their new single “Running River” has been on my mind since. There is something about this track that made me want to hear it again right away. It has a steady alt-country side, but the band gives it enough room to grow without losing its character.
The chorus is amazing and it’s so easy to remember and the vocal melodies have a pull that keeps coming back in your head. I also loved the atmosphere here. The instrumentation is full without becoming too much and the melodies and lyrics work together in a way that gives the song its unique mood.
You can hear how comfortable these musicians are with each other, too. There is a real chemistry between them and that makes the whole performance work better for me. LeBarons clearly have a lot of talent when it comes to both writing and making music. The production is professional, but the song still has so much energy, especially when those memorable melodies take over.
I ended up enjoying this one more than I expected after the first listen. I loved spending time with this song and I already want to hear what they do next. LeBarons have the kind of songwriting and musicianship that can keep growing with every release and honestly, I can see them becoming one of my favorite bands. That is a pretty good sign for me after one song.
