Cale Anderson just landed on my radar with his new album “Yemaya (We all Come from the Goddess)” and I loved this 12-track journey right up until the last second. There is a lot happening across the record, but Anderson never loses the thread. The sounds keep changing and that is probably what kept me listening so closely. The melodies are catchy, the tones stay with you and I really liked the way he uses textures and layers without making the tracks sound like they belong to completely different projects. Each one brings something new to the table, but somehow they all seem to come from the same world. That balance is not easy to get right.
There is also a devotional side to the album, with ideas around Goddess worship, romance, love and spirituality running through the music. Anderson mixes those ideas with unusual lyrics and electronic production, giving the record its unique character without needing to explain everything. I also liked hearing the musical skill behind it. The sounds are well made, the production has so much going on and he really cares about what he is creating.
As someone who always enjoys covering indie artists who make music with passion and care, this was an easy one for me to enjoy. This is an amazing album from an amazing artist and I’m excited to see where Cale takes things next. I can’t wait to check out his next releases this year.
