I’ll be honest, this Finnish band Rough Grind has one of those rare sounds that keeps me hooked from the first track to the last. That’s exactly what happened with “Neverending Night”. I put the album on thinking I’d enjoy a few songs, but before I knew it, I had listened all the way through without wanting to skip anything. I had one of the best experiences this evening!
This is simply a great record if you’re into hard rock and metal. The whole thing has a ton of drive, but it also knows when to slow down for a moment before picking things up again. That balance kept me interested because nothing started to blur together.
The guitars were probably my favorite part here. They have a lot of bite without taking over every song and the bass lines keep everything moving underneath. The vocals bring so much power while the lyrics and melodies give the songs something to hold on to after they end. The darker mood that runs through the album fits the music well and never feels forced into the mix.
What I enjoyed most, though, was the sense that someone cared while making this record. You can hear the passion and commitment behind these songs. The production is polished, the energy is high and the instrumentation is full of moments that kept pulling my attention back.
I came away from this album with the same thought I had when it started. Rough Grind has built a sound that is easy to remember. That’s not something every band manages to do. I had a great time with this album and I’m already looking forward to hearing where they go next.
