Shawn Brown recently landed on my radar with his new single, “What a Way to Go” and it’s an amazing listen from start to end. It opens with great confidence and pulls everything together without wasting time. The story is about two people trying to hold onto their love while life keeps pushing against them.
The hook grabbed me almost immediately and the chorus has the kind of melody that keeps coming back hours later. I also spent a lot of time paying attention to the lyrics because they’re written with care and connect perfectly with the music. Shawn has a rich voice and the emotion in his delivery gives every line extra weight.
The production is another big reason I enjoyed this release. The mix is great and everything sounds balanced. The atmosphere fits the song perfectly and the instrumentation is rich and has great energy. I like the band behind him and I was impressed by the drum work because it keeps the energy moving from one section to the next. The melodies are strong, the songwriting is honest and I really enjoyed listening to both his singing and the way the whole band came together.
This is the first song I’ve heard from Shawn Brown, but it definitely won’t be the last. It’s the kind of release that made me curious about everything else he’s recorded. I’ll gladly keep an eye out for whatever he shares next because this was a great introduction to his music.
