This band was completely new to me, but I fell in love with their sound after my first listen. Dexter Flew have released a new single called “Crowned” and it grabbed my attention right away for all the right reasons. It has the kind of songwriting that keeps pulling me back because there is always another small detail waiting to be noticed.
The vocals carry the song with confidence while the melodies stay in your head long after it ends. I also enjoyed how the instruments never settle into one idea for too long. The changes in rhythm and melody keep everything moving, giving the track a fresh direction without losing its identity. The background harmonies add another layer that fits perfectly and the chorus is truly amazing.
There is also a message behind the music. The lyrics touch on power, misinformation and the confusion surrounding today’s world, but they never take attention away from the music itself. Instead, they work alongside the band’s energy and memorable songwriting. Another thing I appreciated was the production. You can notice that everything sounds professional and the band keeps the performance raw and original instead of polishing away its character. That balance suits the song perfectly.
After spending time with their music, I already know Dexter Flew is a band I want to keep following.
