Are you ready for a jazzy velvet experience with Judith Owen’s new album? “Suit Yourself” pulled me in fast with its piano work and warm jazz sound. The production and mixing are excellent and all 13 songs move in such an easy way that I ended up playing the album longer than I planned. It has that late-night lounge energy, but it never drags or tries too hard to sound classic.
Judith Owen keeps proving why she is one of my favorite indie artists right now. Her melodies stay in your head after the songs end and her vocal delivery has a playful confidence that works perfectly with this style. I also liked how classy and catchy the album stayed from start to finish without becoming too polished. Tracks like “That’s Why I Love My Baby” and “Spooky” carry a fun swing to them, while “Inside Out” closes things with a bigger emotional punch thanks to the choir arrangement.
The instrumentation is really well crafted across the whole album. The piano, brass, drums, and guitar all get room to shine without turning the songs into long showcases. I also have to mention the sound design because the details in the background kept surprising me on headphones.
This album sounds like an artist completely comfortable in her lane. Judith Owen knows exactly what kind of atmosphere she wants, and honestly, I loved spending time with this album.
