Paddy Elliott-Walker – The Barbecue Fender

I wasn’t planning to write anything today, but when I accidentally found Paddy Elliott-Walker and his new single “The Barbecue Fender” I immediately changed my mind. Seriously, there was no way this song was staying off the blog. I played it once while scrolling through random new releases, then ended up replaying it two more times without noticing.

I really like how simple everything sounded around his voice. No extra noise or layers. The instrumentation is great and the production is smart and creative. The small details kept catching me off guard. Especially the way the song slowly builds its atmosphere.

Paddy has a great vocal tone and his style is unique. There’s something very catchy about the way he delivers his lyrics, but they still sound honest and relaxed. The lyrics hit even harder once the story becomes clearer. The track follows two friends whose lives move in different directions, with jealousy and disappointment hanging in the background before things slowly come back together. I liked that he didn’t rush that idea.

More than anything, this song reminded me why I still dig through new music every week hoping to find artists like this. Paddy Elliott-Walker already sounds like somebody I’ll keep coming back to for a long time.
