The Breakdown – Distraction Reaction

The Breakdown have been on my speakers for more than a week now with their new album “Distraction Reaction”. I’ll be honest with you, this is the kind of thing that reminds me why I still enjoy blogging about music. You randomly press play on a band you barely know and suddenly you spend days replaying tracks like you’ve known them for years. That happened to me with this album.

It’s only ten songs, so I wouldn’t call it some huge ride, but somehow it keeps stretching out in your head. Maybe it’s the atmosphere they build or maybe it’s how often some hooks come back later in the day when you’re doing something else. I kept replaying the first track “Ride the Tiger” and “Modern Lies” a lot. “EMERGENCY!” brought this sharp tension that gave the album another side completely. I really love this one!

The band mixes loud guitars, synth touches, catchy vocal lines and smart production choices without making the record messy. There are a lot of ideas here, but they know when to let a song breathe and when to hit hard. I liked how the lyrics looked at modern life too, especially the pressure, confusion, and fake online world around people now.

This band is professional and I really like the chemistry between its members. You can hear they enjoy making this music together. The energy is there all the way through the album and it pulls you back in every time. I think they’re doing something exciting right now and this album ended up becoming one of my favorite new discoveries this year.
