James White & The Wild Fire released their new single “Bonfire” recently and it ended up being a really good listen for me. The band mixes rock and folk together in a way that sounds easygoing but still full of character. I really like how nothing here sounds empty or rushed. You can tell the group understands the kind of sound they want to make.
The instrumentation was probably my favorite part after the first listen. There’s always something moving in the background. The mix between the guitars, percussion and folk-inspired touches gives the track its own personality. I also liked how the song slowly grows stronger as it goes on, especially with the emotions behind the lyrics about breakup, confusion and everything that follows after that kind of situation.
James White’s vocal delivery fits the track really well. It’s smooth, rich and easy to sit with. He doesn’t overdo anything and that helped the song connect more for me. Same with the production and mixing. Everything sounds clean without losing the warmth of the band itself. The melodies were also stuck in my head later that night which honestly surprised me a bit because the song feels pretty relaxed at first.
I enjoyed this track a lot more than I expected to. This band is amazing and has a solid sound and this new single made me want to go listen to more of their music after it ended.
