Cello – We Do What We Want (When We Want When We Want To)

Cello’s new single “We Do What We Want (When We Want When We Want To)” hit me fast. The song just drops you right into this loud and restless mood and keeps pushing forward until the last second. By the time I played it again, I already found myself singing along to the chorus without thinking about it much.

The whole track is basically one huge hook. The guitars keep everything moving while the drums give it that sharp punch that makes the energy stay high all the way through. I really liked how polished the production sounded without sanding down the rough edge of the band. It still has that sweaty late-night rock club spirit to it.

Her voice sticks immediately. It’s strong, direct and easy to remember. She sells the rebellious side of the track really well, especially with the song leaning into youth, chaos, and doing whatever you want for one night. I had as much fun listening to the band behind her as I did listening to her.

There’s a lot packed into the instrumentation and I kept noticing little details on the second listen. The mix of post-punk energy and rock-pop touches worked perfectly for me. Cello already sounds like an artist I’ll keep up with from now on. I’m pretty sure I’ll be writing about her next releases too because this sound stuck with me.
