Good evening! Well, I have some good news. I just discovered a new artist Sssstephen! with his new EP “Triptychs”. I’m writing this review while sitting on my front porch. Watching the sun drop behind the houses across the street. Great moment, right? This record just fit that moment perfectly.
The first track “Day Trip” pulls you in slowly. It’s my favorite one, it builds and breaks, then settles again. The switch between quiet and loud sections works well and the synths give it a slight edge without taking over. His voice carries the whole record, it’s honest and direct. Then “Southpark Meadows”, Guitars drift a bit, almost hazy, but there’s a steady rhythm underneath that keeps it grounded. Amazing experience!
“DMZ” closes the EP in a different way. It shifts things. It leans more into a groove or something you can sit with for a while and I had to replay some parts just for the melody alone. I really loved this one too.
I like how everything connects. It’s only three tracks, but it doesn’t feel small. The production choices are smart, nothing wasted and you can tell he handled it with care. I really enjoyed this release. It’s a strong showing from a talented artist and I’ll probably come back to it again. For now, I’m just going to sit here and let it play one more time.
