Zegovia – Above the Roof & In the Tree

I just discovered this band recently and I loved spending time with their new single “Above the Roof & In the Tree”. The first thing that hit me was how loud this track sits in the room. Not just volume, but presence.

Zegovia lean hard into that mix of emo and alt-rock and it works because the sound stays raw. The guitars have that slightly messy edge, like they’re pushing just a bit too far. The drums are amazing and keep the sound grounded and direct. Around the middle is where everything locks in and it feels less like a performance and more like a band just playing it out in a garage with the door half open.

There’s also a story underneath all this noise. You can tell it comes from looking back at something that used to mean a lot. I’m talking about those younger years where everything felt simple until it didn’t. The image of being up high, away from everything, and then realizing things changed… it lands without needing to spell it out too much. It’s more like remembering a place you haven’t been to in years and noticing it doesn’t look the same anymore. I think this is the core of this song.

I really loved the energy. It doesn’t drop. Even when the song pulls back for a second, there’s still tension sitting there, waiting. Those kinds of production choices make the sound easy to stay with from start to finish.

Zegovia definitely got my attention with this one. I’ll be watching what they do next over the coming months. This is a band that’s still building something, not just repeating it. And honestly, I’m curious where they take that sound next.
