Good evening, everyone! I will just say it. This band is going to be your favorite one for the next few months. The Sunmills surprised me with their new single “They Tell Lies” and I really fell in love with their sound. I played the song twice without thinking about it. The second run just happened which usually means something clicked.
They lean into that pop-rock lane where things move fast but still stay clean. The energy grabbed me right away. It’s steady and not chaotic and it carries through the whole track perfectly. There’s a tightness to how everything is put together. Nothing drifts. The mix is polished here.
The vocal melodies are captivating just enough that you catch yourself replaying a line or two later. I like how direct the delivery is. There’s also something interesting going on under the surface. The song touches on the idea of people living in completely different versions of reality. Even when they’re looking at the same thing. That tension sits quietly behind the music.
The production here is professional and sounds really polished. You can tell time was spent getting this right. The sound design is modern without chasing trends too hard. Guitars, rhythm, vocals. They all sit where they should. I kept noticing small details on the second listen. Little choices in the background, how the rhythm holds things together, how the chorus lifts just enough. It’s controlled and I love that.
Also, I have to say, I really liked the overall quality here. The band sounds locked in. There’s confidence in how they play and how they build a song. They sound like they already know what they want.
I enjoyed pretty much every second of this song. The lyrics are easy to follow, the melodies are well put together and the whole thing just works. I’m definitely keeping an eye on The Sunmills after this. This track made that decision pretty easy.
