It’s Monday and I just discovered this amazing band for you to vibe with today. Hi Ho, Six Shooter is a band with serious passion for their music and their new single “Close as Kin” is a great listen. I didn’t stop myself from replaying it over and over, mostly because that hook wouldn’t leave me alone. It’s got that kind of pull.
The first thing that hit me was the way the guitars come in. Not loud but steady and a little unpolished around the edges. The song doesn’t waste time setting itself up, it just gets going and trusts you’ll follow. This band sit somewhere between country and indie rock here and they don’t smooth that mix out. You can hear both sides. The country sound is great but there’s also a loose and raw rock energy running underneath.
The band’s vocalist has a rich voice and I love it. It’s straightforward, maybe a little worn-in but that really works with the song. His delivery is smooth and that choice makes the writing land better. The lyrics are honest and catchy, and do not sound like they were rewritten a hundred times. They’re original!
The chorus is beautiful and the melody will keep replaying in your head for hours. The instrumentation deserves credit too. Nothing is overplayed and everything adds something. The guitars, the rhythm, the small details sitting in the background. It builds a full sound that you’ll never forget.
There’s a raw quality to this track that I keep coming back to. It’s like a band that knows exactly what they want to sound like and isn’t trying to clean it up for anyone. For me, that’s what made it work. I liked it the first time, but it made more sense the second and third. That’s usually a good sign.
