appetiteapple – Gratitudes

If you’re looking for something soothing to relax with and easy on the ears then appetiteapple’s new album “Gratitudes” is a lovely place to start. This Korean solo project has put together a record I enjoyed from start to end and I’m happy to share it with more listeners.

The album takes a personal idea and gives it room to grow. It looks back at learning to say thank you, something that was difficult for the artist as a child, then follows that lesson into adulthood. There’s also a hint of 90s Britpop in the sound desing, but appetiteapple shapes the sound in their unique way.

I really liked the care behind the music here. The sounds, instruments and smaller details are chosen thoughtfully. It’s the kind of album you can put on when you want to calm down for a while but there’s enough going on to keep you listening closely. “Hello To Strangers” brings to mind the image of looking out from a green hill toward a nearby village. “Matter Of Decision” which is my favorite, carries a firmer mood, built around willpower and finding strength.

appetiteapple made the project independently, handling the production, arrangements, mixing, mastering, and even the artwork. That’s a lot to take on alone and the finished album sounds carefully considered. I enjoyed every track here and it’s made for a satisfying journey from start to end. I’d happily spend more time with this music and I hope to hear more from appetiteapple soon.
