I’ve been a fan of 9 o’clock Nasty since 2024, so it’s great to hear them still making music this good. “Check the Neck” is another sign that this band keeps getting better without losing what makes their music theirs (you know what I mean).
The new single comes in with a strong sense of movement. The vocals have real strength behind them and the hook stayed with me after the song was over. I really liked the production energy here. The bass has a lot going on and the heavy driving beats keep pushing everything forward. There’s a lot of care in the sound design and I enjoyed picking up on the little details as the track moved along.
The lyrics and melodies work well together which gives the song its unique character while keeping things direct. There’s also a great chemistry between the members and that is something I’ve always enjoyed about listening to this band. They sound like a band that knows how to play off each other rather than simply filling space.
There’s a bit of dark humor in the idea behind this track. The song plays with getting older, desire, and refusing to act like you’re supposed to which fits their attitude nicely. I had a lot of fun listening to this one. The energy, bass, vocals and songwriting all hit the right place for me. I’m happy they’re still pushing themselves, and I’ll be keeping this one close.
