I just discovered Weekday Social and their new single “So Close” has been on repeat for nearly an hour. That probably says enough about how quickly this one grabbed me. There is a lot of energy packed into this track, but it never loses the songwriting underneath it. The band bring that alternative rock and pop-punk edge with a nice nostalgic touch. The instrumentation is strong with amazing guitars, bass, and drums giving the song so much weight while leaving room for Louise’s vocals to shine.
I really liked her vocal delivery here. It has a raw quality that suits the song and there is something memorable about the way she handles the melodies. The melodies are one of my favorite parts and the lyrics are original and add another layer because the song deals with getting closer to someone while already knowing that maybe you should not. That uneasy situation gives the track personality without making it complicated.
The production deserves credit. The sound is full, the mixing is excellent and everything sits together well. This one was recorded at home which makes the finished track even more interesting to me, because it still sounds professional without losing that rough energy the band wanted. I have enjoyed listening to this amazing tune and I can easily see myself coming back to it. Weekday Social are definitely going on my favorite list and I would love to hear what they do next. This is a band I’ll be keeping an eye on.
