Good morning everyone! Who still remembers The House Flies and their single “Sweet Foxhound” which we covered here about a year ago? Well, they’re back with “Derelict Crawl” the first single from their upcoming album Lions and Ore, and I’m so excited to write about them again.
One thing I love about this band is that they doon’t seem interested in chasing whatever is popular. They’re doing what they like, and they sound comfortable in it. That matters to me tbh. In a world filled with AI slop, music made with this kind of care is a big part of why I keep writing about and supporting indie artists.
The new single has a rough edge that works really well. The guitars and drums hit hard, there are many small details tucked into the mix and the dark atmosphere stays around the song without taking over. Then that chorus comes in and gives the track a strong hook. The band also keeps the sound raw and original.
The vocals carry a haunting tone with captivating melodies and lyrics. The delivery sounds honest, and I think that honesty is important with music like this. The track is direct, but it still leaves enough rough edges to make it interesting. I loved this one. The House Flies did an amazing job here, and I’d really like to hear more from them soon. If they keep this kind of energy, I’ll be listening.
