The young German singer-songwriter Oskar Brandt has just landed on my radar a few days ago. And he makes a pretty good first impression with his debut single, “Now or Never”. There is a lot going on here, but the song never loses iits focus.
Oskar writes about a relationship that has reached a point where staying uncertain is no longer an option. There is love, doubt, fear and that hope that maybe two people can still choose each other. I like that idea because the song doesn’t try to make those emotions bigger than they need to be.
For a debut, Oskar really nails the performance. You can hear the passion in his voice and I enjoyed spending time with his sound. His delivery fits the song well, especially when the arrangement starts opening up around him. The melodies caught me immediately, and the lyrics give the track something to hold onto. Then there is that chorus, which gives the song its big moment.
I also want to mention the production because it was one of the things I noticed during my listen. The mixing is clean, the sound design has so much detail, and the instrumental sounds carefully put together. The piano, strings, and larger orchestral parts give it scale while still leaving room for Oskar’s voice.
For a first single, this is a strong introduction, tbh. Oskar Brandt is a talented artist and I enjoyed his sound a lot. I would definitely like to hear where he takes his music next.
