Joseph Turner & The Dudes of Hazard have only been making music together this year, but they are already building good foundation. I’ve seen them getting a lot of attention from blogs, playlists and music lovers, and after hearing their new single “Backbone”, I understand why. This is the third release I’ve reviewed from them, so I know there is something here I really enjoy.
The song opens with an easygoing acoustiic sound and settles into a rhythm that keeps the song moving. The acoustic guitar is beautiful and I really liked the instrumentation around it. There is a loose and rootsy character to the performance that suits the band well. The melodies are catchy and will get stuck in your head after your first listen.
The song is about digging deeper when life gets difficult, pushing through the hard stuff and keeping yourself moving. I really like the message. There is some fun in the delivery and the group energy gives the track a relaxed quality. The lyrics and melodies mesh well and the production is professional without taking away from the acoustic sound. The mixing is great and everything sits together nicely which gives each part enough room without making the track sound crowded.
This new single is a great listen from a band I’ve come to trust after three releases. Tbh, I’ve enjoyed everything I’ve heard from them so far, and this one gives me another reason to keep an eye on where they go next.
